Event Description
The first production to feature amazing musicwomen was in 1998 with Gaiafest, A Celebration of Mother Earth with Women in Jazz, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, honoring jazz diva Dakota Staton.
In 2007, Joan Cartwright founded Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. to promote women musicians, globally. A 501(c)(3) non-profit, the organization receives funding from various sources to present Amazing Musicwomen, an ensemble of female musicians, vocalists, and a dancer telling the story of the original divas of blues and jazz.
On October 9-13, 2013, the MUSICWOMEN CONFERENCE will convene with delegates from the United States, European nations, and around the world to celebrate the contributions of women composers and instrumentalists.
