My greatest influences beside the staples - Billie, Carmen, Dinah, Ella - are Gloria Lynne, Alberta Hunter, Morgana King, Aretha, Oscar Brown Jr., Joe Williams, and Betty Carter. I got to actually talk to Carmen, Ella, Gloria, Oscar, Joe, and Betty. Linda Hopkins and Ruth Brown are great singers, too. See the wonderful women musicians archived at my site Jazzwomen Directory. To support women musicians, join our global organization - Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. Also, register for the first International Musicwomen Festival & Conference, coming to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in October 2013, where we will discuss the status of women musicians and composers in the United States and around the world.
